Walter Gordon
(Goog) Short
Dec 26, 1943 — Feb 25, 2021
On Thursday February 25, 2021 our lives were forever changed and our hearts were broken when our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Walter Gordon Short (Goog) passed away suddenly at his residence in Port aux Basques at the age of 77 years. Born at Cape Ray, Goog was the son of the late Frances (nee Short) and Roy Osmond. He was also predeceased by his mother and father in law Wilfred and Caroline Osmond, brother Scott Osmond, and sister Geraldine Osmond. We also take great comfort in knowing Dad has been reunited with his daughter in law Georgina Short whom he thought the world of and spoke of every day since her passing in August of 2019. He leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories the love of his life Bernice (nee Osmond) of 58 years marriage, who devoted her life to caring for him and together they raised five children and lived life to the fullest. Dad will be always loved and will forever remain in the hearts of his children; Gordon Short Jr, (Jean) of Fort McMurray AB, only daughter Beverley (Wayne) White of Port aux Basques, Shawn Short (Natalie) of St. John's NL, Dean Short (Melissa) and Justin Short all of Port aux Basques. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren; Mark (Monique), Spencer (Crystal), Adrian (Samantha), Christopher and Cole all who had their own special connection with "Pop" as they all referred to him. He also thought the world of his great granddaughters; Lyla, Avery, Payton and Rowan. He will also remain in the hearts of his siblings; Frank Osmond (Carrie), Ida Lawrence (Ron), Mary Ann Levy, Dennis Osmond, Roy Osmond (Carol Ann) Ray Osmond and also his sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Dad was a man of many talents and from a very young age he began to learn and possess many skills that made him the smartest man we ever knew. From his many hours spent in his garage, painting and fixing vehicles to building and repairing and upkeeping our homes and his greatest accomplishment, our cabin that he built from the ground up some 46 years ago in Cape Ray, Dad and mom's happy place. He also loved his 1943 Harley Davidson Motorcycle and spent many hours riding. Dad was also a talented musician who could play any instrument that he put his finger too and his love of music was so evident in the many years that he spent playing with the "Country Rovers", a band that he loved so much and the pride he took in this band was amongst some of our favourite memories that we continue to share and carry on in his legacy. He was devoted to his family and always made sure he put our needs before his, he was the best husband, father, provider and teacher and we will miss him forever.
In keeping with Goog's wishes, cremation has taken place, there will be no formal visitation and a celebration of his life will take place when we can be together with our family and Dad's many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Goog's memory can be made to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL info@easthavenfuneralhome.com, 709-695-2300. www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
