Teresa Gloria
"Susan" Ryan
Aug 11, 1948 — Jan 15, 2026
Port aux Basques
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Teresa Gloria "Susan" Ryan announces her peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, on Thursday, January 15th, 2026 at the age of 76 years. Born in Tompkin's, NL. Susan was the daughter to the late Cornelius and Mary Edith Chaisson (nee Green). She was also predeceased by her husband Roger and her son Terry; brothers, Peter, Paul, James, David, Cornelius (Con) and Terry; sister, Mary Chaisson
With precious memories she leaves to mourn; her son Roger (Patricia) of St. John's, NL, and her daughter Tracey of Codroy Valley, NL; 5 grandchildren, Ryan (Samantha), Emma (Justin), Paige, Harley and Eva. She also leaves behind her sisters, Cecilia Ryan of O'Regans , Karen (Dan) Rixon of Port aux Basques, NL, Wanda Wheeler of Stephenville, NL, Valerie (Les) Gerein of Fort McMurray, AB and Julie (Kevin) Lannigan of St. John's, NL; brothers, Morris Chaisson of Codroy Valley, NL Joseph (Judy) Chaisson of Halifax, NS and Brian Chaisson of Codroy Valley, NL plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Susan was a caregiver at heart. Her whole life was devoted to the care of others – more specially her son, Terry and her mother, Mary in her later years. She was the "go-to" person for the family. Always placing other needs before her own. No one would ever complain about being hungry in Susan's presence – as her tea pot was always full, and food was always offered.
Susan was an avid card player and bingo player. She never turned down an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren – and pass along that knowledge. Susan was proud to have her grandchildren escort her to a bingo game. And would even let them win at cards (sometimes).
At the young age of 70, Susan was diagnosed with Dementia – and with that a journey for her family was travelled over the last 6 years. It was a long good-bye to a loving sister, mom, grandmother and friend. The family is so happy that she is at peace and with her husband, Roger and son, Terry once again.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre Long Term Care Unit in Port aux Basques; Thank you to those who walked with her and helped her to the end of her journey. She was loved deeply.
In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. Both Susan, and her son, Terry will be laid to rest together at a future date. A beautiful love story between a devoted mother and son.
Interment for Teresa will be held on July 18th, 2026 at 10:00 am at St Ann's Church in Upper Ferry - funeral mass followed by graveside burial.
Final arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL. info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
Remember me as I used to be
Not as you saw me last.
Recall the days of happy times
Spent with me in the past.
Instead of tears for what might have been
Smile for all that we shared.
A life so full of happiness,
made so, because you cared.
And next time you see a rose in bloom
Or hear a blackbird's song.
Remember me as I used to be
In the days when I was strong.
I would not wish for you to grieve
For the person I had become
Instead relive those memories,
of the days when I was young.
So remember me as I used to be
Not as you saw me last.
And keep me close in memory
In your present and in our past.
