It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother; Sylvia Carew, on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Western Health Long Term Care Facility in Corner Brook, NL. Sylvia was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Sheaves (nee Bishop). She was also predeceased by her brothers; Louis, Fredrick, Eric, J oseph, Lloyd, Clifford, Wilfred and Robert, sister; Edith Sheppard, brothers-in-law; Alphonse and Frank Carew and sister-in-law; Aneitha Sheaves.
Leaving to mourn with precious memories her loving husband of 62 years; Eric, son; Fred (Kathy) of Port aux Basques, NL, sister; Ruth Frazer of California and sister-in-law; Selina Parsons of Baie Verte, NL. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren; Candice (Ted) White of Cold Brook, NL and Adam (Elyse) of Olds, AB. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren; Ryan, Ashtyn, Graham and Ty, plus a large circle of nieces and nephews who were very special to her and were an important part of her life.
Aunt Sylvia's was a place that the family went to, whether it was to stay while traveling or to just drop by for a cup of tea. She was a kind and loving person who always welcomed you into her home. A perfect example of Newfoundland hospitality, she was always happy to see you drop in and to make sure your belly was full before you left. There was always a piece of loaf, a cookie or a piece of cake to have along with your chat and it was was easier to eat than to say no to her.
Her family was everything to her and her grandchildren; Candice and Adam, where her pride and joy. She loved her frequent calls with them and hearing about what was happening in their lives. Her great-grandchildren; Ryan, Ashtyn Graham and Ty were equally important and she couldn't wait to see a new picture or video or to have an occasional FaceTime with them.
