Stephen James
Hilliard
Apr 11, 1941 — Apr 10, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Stephen James Hilliard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, on April 10th, 2025, at Western Regional Memorial Hospital. Stephen left us after a full life of love, laughter, and adventure.
Stephen loved camping, attending church, knitting, reading, spending time with his family, and cuddling his fur babies, Chimo and Bella. He especially treasured his family and friends.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Solomon and Ethel, and his beloved brother, Erenst. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Joan, his beautiful daughters Stephanie (Troy), Rose (Jessie-Fur Baby), and Katrina; granddaughter Hanna (Tyson); great-grandson Logan; brothers Sandy, Harvey (Jackie), and Eric; sister Lucy O'Quinn (Fred); sisters-in-law Geraldine, Doris, Minnie, and Genivive; numerous nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends close and far.
A much-deserved appreciation and thanks go to the staff of unit 4C of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, whose patience and compassion will be forever remembered. Special thanks to his nurse Tracy for her extra compassion and care.
Stephen's family gives special thanks and love to Eric Hilliard, who stayed by his side with Stephen's wife till the very end and eased some of the pain in a very difficult time in their lives.
Thank you, Rev. David Russell, Rev. George Critchell, Rev. Francis Elgar, and Rev. Joshua Haggstrom, for their kindness and prayers.
Thank you to the staff of East Haven Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques, for your excellent service and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to visit on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, from 7-9 PM at Holy Trinity Church Codroy. To commemorate Stephen's incredible journey and to celebrate his beautiful life, a service will be held at Holy Trinity Church at 11 AM on April 14th, 2025. We invite all who knew him to join us in remembering this remarkable man.
