Shirley
Mcdonald
Feb 2, 1945 — Apr 30, 2025
With immense sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Shirley McDonald, announce her passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health centre, on April 30th at 80 years of age, with family by her side.
Shirley was the daughter of the late Priscilla Keeping. She was also predeceased by; her husband Frank, brother Gerald (Betty), sister in law Elsie Keeping, nephews Danny and John (Pam), niece Lisa (Richard) Wells and special cousin Shirley Hann, who was like a sister to her.
Shirley leaves to mourn; brothers Herb and Morgan (Marina), her special nephew, who was more like a son to her, Jason (Lori) keeping of Sudbury Ontario, nieces and nephews; Priscilla Keeping (Chris Swain) of Port Aux Basques, Tamara Keeping (Adam Skinner); Christa Keeping (Gavin Harding), Luke and Lily Keeping, Bethany Keeping, Karen (Stedman) Genge, Darren (Tina) Keeping, Jayne Hann and Michelle Pike(Cory) and her beloved grandchildren; Jason Keeping, Joshua Keeping and Emma Lee Keeping. Shirley will also be missed by her large circle of in laws on the Bonevista Peninsula as well as many friends and extended family.
Shirley will always be known for her big heart, her love of her family, her straight forward comments, love of live Newfoundland music and game shows, her salty cooking and her love of cigarette's. Shirley loved a good game of bingo and could be counted on to support all the bingo halls around along with radio bingo which was always a favourite of hers. Her weekly hair appointments with Shirley at Total Image was a long standing tradition where she got to enjoy conversing with the ladies and getting herself prepped and ready.
Any animal who walked on four legs owned Shirley's heart. Her dogs and cats were members of her family who were always spoiled with cooked meals and loving attention. She never wanted to see an animal in pain or not being treated with the upmost care.
In 1969 Shirley married to the love of her life Francis McDonald. They built a beautiful life together, first in Montreal and then shortly later they moved back to Port aux Basques where they shared many years together. Their nephew Jason Keeping (Jase) was a fundamental part of their family whom they both cherished and adored. Jason's children, Jason, Joshua, Emma were grandchildren to Shirley and Frank and were loved beyond measure.
Francis passed over twenty years ago and while Shirley will be deeply missed by those who loved her they find comfort in knowing they are reuniting and that she will get to update him and her best friend Shirley Hann on all the things they've missed.
The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Marjorie and Karen, two very special home-care workers whose compassionate care did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated.
