Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Shirley Mildred Hodder (nee Carter), announce her sudden passing in Cape Ray, NL on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026 at the age of 75 years.

Born in Cape Ray, NL, Shirley was the daughter of the late Issac and Maria Carter. She was also predeceased by her father and mother in-law, Alexander and Mary Hodder; brother, William Carter, sisters; Elizabeth Gosse and Myrtle (Tom) Warren, sisters in-law; Jane Carter and brother in-law; Alex Hodder, Clarence (Elizabeth) Hodder.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Clayton of 57 years; her children, Hector (Faye) Carter, Tracy (Edward) White, David (Christine) Hodder, Tammy Hodder and Jamie (Lisa) Hodder; grandchildren, Matthew, Anthony, Dustin, Kaitlyn, Brady, Megan, Angelina, Isaiah, Isabelle, and Isaiah, Ivy; great grandchild Josiah. She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters; Fred Carter, Maisie (Dave) Lomond, Calvin (Deborah) Carter, in-laws; Gertie Carter and Gordon Gosse, Anne Hodder, Cedilla Hodder, Betty Kettle, Marie Hodder, Bernice Hodder, Eric (Alma) Hodder, Wilson (Lillian) Hodder Maise (Robert) Bushell Wayne (Bonnie) Hodder as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Western Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care, as well as to the Port aux Basques paramedics and RCMP for their support and assistance during this difficult time.

Shirley was a truly beautiful person, inside and out. She found joy in life's simple pleasures—reading, doing puzzles, knitting, and tending to her garden. Above all else, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, who meant the world to her. Though she never had the chance to meet her great-grandchild, her love for him was already deep and unconditional.

Shirley also had a generous and giving spirit. She devoted much of her time volunteering at the Cape Ray Fire Hall, always ready to lend a hand without ever expecting anything in return. Her kindness, warmth, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her.

In keeping with Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Cape Ray, NL. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL, info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
