Ralph
Organ
Jan 1, 1940 — Jan 13, 2024
On Saturday January 13th, 2024 our lives were forever changed when our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ralph Organ, aged 84, passed away suddenly at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, NL, with his loving family by his side. Born in Burgeo, NL. Ralph was the Son of the late Alfred and Rosabelle (nee Taylor) Organ. He was predeceased by his wife, and mother to his children, Dora (nee Vautier); grandson, Jamie; brother's, Harold and Gerald; brother and sister in-law, Henry and Evelyn Organ; sister's and brother's in-law, Florence (Thomas) Bond, Olive (Ruben) Taylor, and Patricia (George) Organ; brother's in-law, Clarence and Rodney Vautier; sister's in-law, Hazel Vautier and Bernice (Arthur) Chant.
Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife Effie (nee Oram); son, Paul (Kathy); daughter, Pauline; and grandchild (and poppy's girl) Sarah; brother Don (Elise) Organ; step-sons, Harold (Joanne) Hewitt and Roland (Joan) Hewitt; step-grandchildren, Dylan (Taylor) Hewitt, Aaron, Carter and Alexis. He will also be missed by sister's in- law, Audrey Organ, Elsie Anderson, Velda Vautier and Patsy (Verne) Babcock; brother's in-law, William (Barbra) Vautier, Clyde (Margaret) Oram, Elias (Evelyn) Oram, and Harry (Agnes) Oram; plus a very large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Ralph was a man that loved two things in life, the ocean and his family. As a young boy he left home (Lapoile) to fish on the mainland. As time went on, he was able to come back home and start a family. Eventually he moved to Port aux Basques with his wife Dora, daughter Pauline and son Paul. He landed a spot as a cook under Captain Dick Hardy on the famed Sandra and Carolann. After Dick retired, Ralph took over as Captain and had great success fishing the 65 ft fleet until the cod moratorium. He went on to own his own fishing enterprise and purchased a 35 ft long-liner named the Wanda Gearldine, which he renamed the Sarah D, after his beloved grand daughter, Sarah and his first wife, Dora.
Like everything Ralph had taken on in life, the enterprise he built with his son Paul, was very successful. He eventually retired from fishing and Paul look over the enterprise. Even though he had retired, he still loved to be around the stage helping out any one that needed it; between baiting a tub of gear, telling a good story and giving advice whether it was wanted or not!
Ralph also faced great sadness and tragedy in his life; the loss of his wife Dora and grandson Jamie. He found peace in being around family and the many people he touched over the years. He was able to find love again with his second wife Effie. They eventually moved to Lark harbour where she is the minister and Ralph helped out around the parish and the wharf as he did everywhere he went. He touched many people in many ports and his legacy will live on in stories for many years to come.
Special thank you to the Doctors, nurses and staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, ICU for the amazing and compassionate care that was given to Ralph and family.
