Obituary

Our lives were forever changed on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, with the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Ralph Miles at the age of 77 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL he was the son of the late Nelson and Maggie Miles (née Hatch). He was also predeceased by his parents in-law Samuel and Josie Ingram; brothers and sisters in-law, Reg Morris, Peter Moriarty, George Warren, Edna (Nash) Power. and Mannie (Carrie) Ingram; nephew, Sean Moriarty.

Leaving to mourn with many fond and precious memories, his loving wife of 58 years: Margaret (née Ingram); son Nelson (Lillian) Miles; daughter, Deborah Crawford (Sammy Gundlock); and his pride and joy, his grandchildren: Sherry and Sean. He also will be missed by his sisters, Eileen Morris, Ruby Moriarty, and Carol Ann Crewe; his brothers and sisters in-law: Rodney (Mary) Ingram, Irene Warren, Norman (Alice) Ingram and Hubert (Susanne) Ingram; plus, a very large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Ralph was an honourable seaman who sailed on the Atlantic Ocean as a Captain with Marine Atlantic for over 30 years. Anyone who had the pleasure to sail with him would say that he was a fair captain to work with, and always put the safety of his crew and passengers first and foremost. He was a giving man who did what he could for others. Proudly serving on the Channel- Port aux Basques volunteer fire department for over 30 years and was a lifetime Masonic Lodge member. When he wasn't on the water, he would spend his downtime enjoying the simple things. An outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting. Whenever you would see Ralph partridge hunting, he always had one of his faithful hunting dogs by his side.

The family would like to thank his home care workers Janice and Hayley Hatcher for the excellent care and compassion that they gave to him. As well as the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre. The care and compassion given to him have not gone unnoticed and we cannot thank you enough.

In keeping with Ralph's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to visit East Haven Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
