It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing, in the comforts of his home, our beloved Husband, Dad, and Poppy; Norman Savoury of Rose Blanche on Tuesday, June 23 rd , 2020 at the age of 80 years. Born in Parson's Harbour, Norman was p redeceased by his parents Joseph and Annie Savoury, brothers Charles and Junior, cherished grandson Christopher, father and mother-in-law Henry and Emily Durnford, and sister-in-law Effie ( Chesley ) Collier.
Leaving to mourn with a wealth of cherished memories his wife of 59 years and best friend Victoria, his loving children Doreen (Terry), Perry (Joanne), Rodney (Elizabeth), Angela (Randy), Wanda, and Norma (Wayne) who were their Dad's pride and joy. They will miss him dearly. Mourning their cherished Poppy and reflecting on their many treasured moments together are his much-loved grandchildren Kerry (Twyla), Jason (Valerie), Matthew (Lacey), Bradley, Mitchell, Chelsea, Ryan, step-granddaughter Glenda (Garland) and great-grandchildren Caleb, Logan, Parker, Priya, Paige and Ruby.
Norman also leaves to mourn with heavy hearts his brothers Matthew (Ruby), Harold (Violetta), Gerald (Edna), Roland (Verna), his sisters Rose (Fitz) Fitzgerald and Eva (George) Moore, his brothers-in-law Clayton (Joan) Durnford, Phil Durnford, his sister-in-law Sebina (Henry) Keeping, Margaret Savoury plus a wide circle of extended family and friends also join his family in mourning and celebrating a wonderful person.
Norman was a dedicated fisherman and hard worker. He often spoke about his work and the sea with pride. He knew it well, he worked it even harder, and he passes along that legacy to many generations of children. Norman exemplified the grace of a gentleman – selfless, kind, hardworking, sincere, and knowledgeable. He was often referred to as "a quiet man", but quiet in his own right. He was a listener and often had words of wisdom if you chatted with him for long. He also had many hidden talents. He could speak on current news topics and quietly answer Jeopardy questions, he was handy with tools, and built the neatest model dories and long liners.
There was something special about dad. He radiated something that made others feel good and want to be around him. Our mom saw those qualities and was blessed with his love and company for many years. He will fondly be remembered and forever missed.
