Norma Lucy
Rose Chaulk
Feb 20, 1944 — Jan 15, 2023
"I did it my way" is the best way to describe the life journey of the late Norma Lucy Rose Leriche Chaulk. It is with a heavy heart that the family announces her passing on January 15th, 2023 at the age of 78 years. Norma was truly an extraordinary and unique spirit who lived by her own compass, with a heart of gratitude, a zest for life, and a friend and inspiration to all who knew her.
Norma born in 1944 in Halifax, N.S. was the oldest daughter of the late Georgina nee Mullins and Raymond LeRiche. She grew up in the colourful community of Charlies Head, Port-aux-Basques.
On June 16 th , 1967 Norma married the love of her life, Samuel Chaulk. Their love story and beautiful dancing are memories that hold dear to many who knew them.
Norma is predeceased by: her husband Samuel Chaulk, her mother and father (Georgina and Raymond LeRiche), her mother and father-in-law (Fred and Priscella Chaulk), her sister (Dianne Peckford), brothers Bobby and Keith LeRiche, three brothers-in-law (Jerome Pearce, Robert 'Bob' Keeping, and Adrian Beaumont) and sister-in-law Arlene Seward.
Norma is survived by: her sisters, Baraba Anderson (Nate), Brenda Keeping (Leo), Joan Pearce, and Ruby Beaumont. Her brothers, Raymond (Helena), David (Judy), Jerry LeRiche, and Merrill LeRiche. Her three children: Paula, Sandra, and son Stephen (husband to Ashley) have been blessed and are forever grateful to have called Norma, Mom.
Her memory will live on in her 6 grandchildren: Shannon, Rylan, Aselin, Ronan, Clare, and Thatcher by her love of music, books, and instructions to seize every opportunity for adventure and create new memories.
Her many students and colleagues will forever remember her as fun, creative, and deeply inspiring. An educator for more than 30 years, both in the province and elsewhere in Canada, brought her many new friends, stories, and adventures.
Her love of music (playing piano and piano accordion), dancing, physical activity, the great outdoors, walks, books and deep faith enriched her life beyond measure and brought her much joy.
Norma's wishes for cremation have taken place. Visitation will take place at East Haven Funeral Home in Grand Bay on Wednesday, January 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A Celebration of Life followed by a joyful community gathering will be held this coming August 2023. Details will be shared publicly in due time. Donations in Norma's memory will be divided among charities that were close to her heart (The Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army food bank, and Daffodil house).
Loved, cherished, and fondly remembered by so many as a friend, teacher, aunt, cousin, mother, and grandmother, we will hold her in our hearts forever. Please, Norma, "Save the Last Dance for Me."
