Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the Late Montford Keeping announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 28th 2024, at the age of 83 years, at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center, in Port aux Basques, NL with his loving sons by his side. Born in Burnt Islands, NL he was the son of the Late Wendall and Harriett Keeping. He was also predeceased by his wife Phyllis (neé Lillington); his brother and sister, Herman (Lillian) Keeping, and Phyllis (Reg) Leamon; his father and mother in-law, George and Florence Lillington; his sisters and brothers in-law, Carrie (Percy) Ramsey, Lillian (Jim) Knavel, Jim Kean, Edna (Dave) Kendall, Loretta Osmond, Betty, and Jane Lillington.

He leaves to morn with many fond and precious memories his son's, Montford (Delphine) Keeping of Scarborough, Ont., Terry (Cynthia) Keeping and Ronnie (Margaret) Keeping; his companion, Margaret Alyward, all of Port aux Basques, NL; his five grandchildren, Shane (Kara), Spencer (Madison), Chad, Megan(Spencer), and Kyle(Jen); and three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Austin and Scarlett. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters, Roy (Rose) Keeping, Mable (George) Keeping, Harold (Belinda) Keeping, all of Burnt Islands, NL.; his sisters and brothers in-law, Gertie Kean of Mount Pearl, NL, Hughie Osmond and Gordon Lillington both of Port aux Basques, and George (Myrtle) Lillington of St. John's, NL., plus a very large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Montford worked with the CN Railroad right up until his time of retirement. A quiet man, with a kind heart and a gentle soul. He would go out of his way to help anyone and everyone who needed it. He was always there to offer a ride or a home cooked meal. A proud member of our Royal Canadian Legion Branch 11 who dearly loved the outdoors and enjoyed all the activities it had to offer like hunting, fishing, and berry picking. A real social butterfly who loved being at the wharf for a chat with his buddies and he went to any social event that was on the go. He'd never turn down a good game of cards or a night out for a dance. He will certainly be missed by those who knew him.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL.
