Mildred Samms
(Gallop)
Jul 8, 1934 — Nov 11, 2019
On Monday November 11, our hearts and our lives were forever changed as we said goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend Mildred Samms (nee Gallop) of Codroy at the age of 85 years. Born in Codroy, Mildred was the daughter of the late Morgan and Lavina (Dolly) Gallop. She was also predeceased by her husband James W. Samms (1983); and her son John T. Samms (2013); her in laws, Firzman and Maggie Samms; her sisters Marcella Patten (Paul), Ada MacDonald (Angus), her brother Gordon Gallop; brother in laws; Jacob Samms, George Samms, Chesley Samms, Richard Morris and sister in law Dorothy Samms.
Leaving to mourn with many fond and precious memories her daughter, Marg Donaldson, her son Nelson (Ann) Samms all of Codroy. She is also survived by her daughter in law Betty Samms, her caretaker of Codroy. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Denise Samms (John Allen); Ivan (Krista) Samms; Clifford (Rebecca) Samms; Bill Donaldson; Julia (Junior) Samms; Jeannie (Robin) Johnston; and Donald (Brandi) Samms. She will also be fondly remembered by her great grandchildren: Tamara; Mallory; Chase; Clark; Jasmine; Kaleb; Rogan; Leah; Kevin; Ryan; Henry and Ryder. Also many children who called her Nan; Tony and Doreen; Ronnie; Jenelle and boys; Dolly, Cassie and Lance and Kylie. Mildred is also survived by her sisters; Sylvia Morris and Etta (John) Colbourne; brothers: Clifford (Sophia) Gallop and Kyrl (Germaine) Gallop. Sister in laws: Annie (Walter) AuCoin; Patricia Samms; Dorcas Samms, Adeline Luedee and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Mildred had a zest for life and the love of her family and community was most important to her. She was proud of Codroy and all that it stood for in her life. You could often times find her at a card game, listening to music, dancing or playing bingo with her sisters, her infectious smile and hearty laugh lit up the room. Her presence in her community and the love she had for her family will give us the strength we will need to carry on without her, she will live in our hearts forever. Visitation taking place on Thursday November 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Codroy, from where the funeral service will take place on Friday November 15, 2 pm, officiated by Rev. Faye Coffin. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. Flowers graciously accepted or memorial donations can be made to the family. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Inc. 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, 695-2300. www.easthavenfueneralhome.com
