We, the family of the late Maude Melita "Melita" Best (née Parsons), are saddened to announce her peaceful passing on June 27, 2026, at her residence in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland and Labrador, at the age of 94. Born on March 15, 1932, Melita was the cherished daughter of the late Annie and Jack Parsons. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Best; her parents-in-law, George and Caroline Best; her son, Joey Best; her grandchildren, Shane Best and Joshua Best; as well as brothers, sisters, and in-laws.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her five loving daughters: Gloria (Willie), Diane (Larry), Ethel (Jackie), Verna, and Trudy (Rick). She also leaves with loving memories her grandchildren: Ann Marie, Jody, Joey, Guy, Caroline, Sonya, Melissa, Jody, Jay, Shana, Holly, and Matthew, along with 22 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Also left to mourn are her sister, Annie May; her brothers, John (Mabel) and Willie (Ann); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, neighbours, and everyone whose lives she touched.
The family would like to send a sincere thanks to Melita’s home care workers, Wendy Hardy, Ellen Bernard, and Cindy Meade for the care and compassion given to her over the years.
Melita was a true homemaker at heart who found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved knitting, playing bingo, and a good game of cards. She treasured every moment spent with her family. She was a caring, selfless woman who was always ready to babysit, lend a helping hand, or simply be there whenever someone needed her. Family meant everything to Melita, and the love she poured into her home and those around her helped make her family what it is today. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and generous nature will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered forever. She lived a life devoted to her family and her home, touching the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Tuesday, June 30th, 2026, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and on Wednesday, July 1st, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at St. Michael's and All Angels Church in Rose Blanche, NL.
