Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the late Leona Gale (nee AuCoin) at Dr Charles. L. Legrow on August 15th, 2025 at the age of 87 years. Born in South Branch, Leona was the daughter of the late Arthur and Annie AuCoin (nee MacArthur).

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and pillar of the South Branch and Codroy Valley community, known and admired by all who crossed her path. Her family was what she cherished most, she was the "glue" of the family. Her door was always open and a welcoming hub for family, friends, neighbours and strangers alike. Whenever someone was in need, she never hesitated—"yes" was always her answer, as she gave of herself endlessly and selflessly.

She lived a life of service, kindness and love to others including volunteering in the church, community events and South Branch Social Club. She was an avid card player and found joy in baking, playing darts, bingo —where her lucky streak was well known. With a heart of gold, she touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of generosity, laughter, and love. She will be dearly missed to all who loved her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald; step father Terrence; parents-in-law John and Jessie Gale; brothers and sisters Cecilia, Walter, Bernice (Ron), and Raymond; and brothers and sisters in law Ned, Johnny (Elsie), Paul (Janie), Mike, Bern (Marcie), Frank, Andy (Christine), Gordon (Clara), Loretta ( Ernie), Rosie, and Jim.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by her children: LaDawn and Shane (Jennifer); grandchildren Brandon (Courtney), Justin (Morgan), and Marissa (Riley); great-grand child Ryker; brothers and sisters Clara (Clive), Clem (Madonna), Christine; and brothers and sisters in law Wallace (Shirley), Bob (Bryde), Pius (Cecilia), Ella, Kaye, Annie, and Bill (Gene). She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews and a wide circle of close friends.

In keeping with Leona's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation at St.Sylvester's church in South Branch on August 27th at 2-4 and 7-9 O'clock. Funeral service at August 28th at 11AM. There will be a celebration of life to follow at the South Branch Social Club. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL, info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
