Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Joshua (Jussie) Skinner announces his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday June 10th, 2025 at the age of 72 years. Born in Isle aux Morts. Jussie was the son of the late Joshua and Vida Skinner (nee Harvey). He was also predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Walter and Elsie LeFrense (nee Ball); brother in-law, Pete; nephew, Deon.

He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife of 51 years Katie (nee LeFrense); his son, and best friend, Bradley (Carla) and his pride and joy, his grandson Andy. He will also be missed by his bonus daughter Joy; brothers and sisters, Berkley (Eileen), Ida (Don), Winnifred (Jimmy), Shelia (Frank), Darlene (Mike) Kathleen (Junior) and Maisie; sisters and brothers-in-law Elsie, Ralph (Shelia), Pauline (Earl), Marion (Clar); plus a very large circle of nieces, nephews and friends, including his Humber Motors and his Isle aux Morts Boys family and friends.

Jussie was truly a unique individual, known for his infectious laughter and ever-present smile. A dedicated family man, his world revolved around his loved ones. His closest companion was his son, Bradley, but his heart truly belonged to his grandson, Andy. Every day at 3 PM, he would eagerly sit by the phone, anticipating Andy's call for their cherished Tim's date. It was a special ritual that brought them closer, and Jussie was determined to teach Andy how to drive, all while keeping it a secret from Katie. His love for Tim Hortons coffee was just another layer of the joy he found in these moments. His passion for cars was evident in his work at the Humber Motors Ford dealerships, where he took immense pride in meticulously detailing each vehicle to perfection.

At just 12 years old, Jussie crafted his first guitar using a molasses tin, showcasing his early passion for music and creativity. Music, was another significant part of his life; he was celebrated as the lead guitarist of the Isle aux Morts Boys. Despite not being able to read music, he had an extraordinary ability to create captivating melodies on any string instrument he touched, leaving a lasting impression on all who heard him play.

In keeping with Jussie's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Friday June 13th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm with a family prayer taking place at 4 pm officiated by Rev. Annie Rose at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. Internment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Jussie's memory can be made to the family. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL. Info@easthavenfuneralhome.com. (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
