It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Joseph Francis Downey announce his passing in O'Regan's, NL, on Sunday, July 2nd, 2023, at the age of 70 years. Born in Great Codroy, NL. Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Downey (nee Colson). He is also predeceased by his sisters; Geraldine Hayden, Stella Dolan, Sheila Davis, and Linda MacIsaac. Brothers; Kevin Downey, Loyola Downey, and Jim Downey. And, nephews; Ambrose MacIsaac and Ashley MacIsaac.

With precious memories he leaves to mourn; his children; Sabrina Josephine (Matthew) and Lee Travis. He will also be greatly missed by his brother, Bernard Downey and sisters; Nora Wall, Rita Downey, Leila Murphy. Nieces and nephews; Theresa, Raymond Jr., Bernard, Scott, Natasha, Aaron, Byron, Christopher, Leo, Terry, Walter, Louis, Corey, Wesley, Larissa, Wendy, David, Raymond, Roger, plus a large circle of extended family and friends.

His children were the light of his life. He loved classic automobiles and driving around his home in the Codroy Valley. He was a hard worker, having worked with Marine Atlantic for 36 years in many different roles until he retired in 2008. He had a passion for hockey, with his favorite team being the Boston Bruins.

"His Smile. Though his smile is gone forever and his hand we cannot touch, we have so many memories of the one we loved so much. His memory is our keepsake with which we will never part, God has him in his keeping we have him in our hearts. Sadly missed but never forgotten"

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at St. Ann's, Upper Ferry on Monday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at a later date.
