It is with deep sadness that the family of Joseph (Reg) Chevalier announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, July 10 at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center, at the age of 78.
Born on June 24, 1947, in Saint-Casimir, Quebec, to the late Elcide and Marie Chevalier (nee Allard). He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law Isaac & Caroline Pearce, children Deborah and Sherman, a large circle of brothers and sisters-in-law and his niece Annie.
Reg leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his beloved wife Mary-Ellen Pearce, children Glen, Gina (Nick), and Roderick; granddaughter Oriana; sisters Micheline (Denis), Nicolé (Danielle), Martiane (Denis), Guylaine (Andre); brothers and sisters-in-law Hiram (Linda), Nelson, Eva, Esther, Lionel (Sylvia), Leo (Patsy), Daisy (Jerry); Plus a very large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, military family, friends and his camp buddies.
Reg proudly served his country with unwavering dedication for over 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. As an operations specialist, engineer and skilled mechanic, Reg's service took him across Canada and around the world. He served on numerous peacekeeping missions, bringing strength, compassion and resilience wherever he was stationed. A man who loved the land, he found deep joy in gardening, hunting, and fishing, especially after his military retirement.
At the heart of his life was his darling wife, Mary, with whom he shared a love that inspired all who knew them. Their bond was deep marked by simple yet meaningful rituals – most notably their cherished Saturday night candlelit steak dinners, a tradition rarely missed. Whether they were dancing around a fire to their favorite music or quietly enjoying a beer under the stars, their love was a true and constant flame. Joseph's presence was magnetic- calm, steady and kind, with a spark of humor and joy. He was a loyal friend and loving family man, and will be remembered by his strength and the warmth he brought into every room.
He served his country. He loved his family and he lived a beautiful life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In keeping with Reg's wishes, cremation has taken place. Internment will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home.
