Obituary

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late John Foote announces his peaceful passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL, on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026, at the age of 85 years. Born on July 14th, 1941, John was the son of the late John and Katie Foote.

John was predeceased by his loving parents, John and Katie Foote; his parents-in-law, Edgar and Maude LeRiche; his brothers, Fred Foote and Wilson Foote (Marilyn); his brothers-in-law, John Meade, Ulrich Savoury, Ralph LeRiche, Dennis Taverner, and Howard LeRiche; and his nephews, Bob LeRiche, John D. Meade, and Dan Taverner.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories is his devoted wife of 67 years, Florence, who stood lovingly by his side throughout their many wonderful years together. John will also be deeply missed by his cherished daughters, Catherine (Cletus Wall) and Debbie (Glenn House); his beloved granddaughters, Katelyn House (Christopher Caines) and Jennifer Whalen (Dylan); and his treasured great-grandchildren, Anasteshia, Noah, and Brookes.

John also leaves behind his loving sister, Helen Meade; his brothers, Frank Foote and George Foote (Patricia); his sisters-in-law, Faye Foote, Bernice Taverner, Joan Savoury, Ruth LeRiche, and Mary LeRiche; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

John was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent many years working on the railway and was also a skilled carpenter. He took great pride in his work and believed in the value of an honest day's labour. Whether working with his hands or lending his skills to a project, John approached everything he did with care, patience, and dedication.

Above all, John was a man of remarkable character and unwavering faith. A devoted churchgoer, he lived his life guided by his Christian beliefs, treating others with kindness, respect, and compassion. He was never one to speak poorly of anyone and always chose to see the good in those around him. His gentle nature, quiet strength, and genuine goodness were qualities that made him so deeply loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John's greatest blessings were found in the love of his family and the life he built alongside Florence. The memories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely will remain a lasting part of his legacy. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the example he set through his faith, kindness, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Family and friends are welcome to visit on Friday, October 30th, 2026, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 2026, at 11:00 AM from Faith Pentecostal Church.
