It is with deep sadness that the family of Isaac James Matthews announces his passing on Wednesday, June 11 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, at the age of 87.

Born on August 27, 1937, in Port aux Basques, Isaac was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Isaac was predeceased by his mother and father, Thomas and Caroline Matthews, and his brother Charlie Matthews as well as many beloved friends and family members.

Isaac leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his beloved wife Irene (née Young); his sons Brent, and Colin (Candace); and his cherished grandsons Isaac and Samuel. He is also survived by his sister Carrie Walters, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Isaac will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, especially his grandsons, who were the light of his life. Known to many as "Granny's Ike", Isaac will be fondly remembered for his love of storytelling, his sense of humour, and his kindness.

Visitation will take place at East Haven Funeral Home on Saturday, June 14 from 10-12 and 1-2 after which the funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.
