It is with heavy hearts and overwhelming sadness that the family of the late Gerald Joseph Roy announces his passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL on Tuesday, August 3 ^rd , 2022 after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Sherbrooke, QC, Gerald was one of 12 children born to Lucien and Ange-Marie (née Noel).

He leaves to mourn, his children; Rosalyn and René, grandson; Silas, best friend; Evelyn Lilly, siblings; Robert, Rachel, Lise, Odette and extended family. He was predeceased by his siblings; Lucille, Marcel, Roger, Denis, Yolande, Carmen and Hélène. A former schoolteacher, Gerald also worked as a mediator for the Canadian Human Rights Commission before retiring to be near his children in Port aux Basques. He was an avid golfer and diehard Montreal Canadiens hockey fan who enjoyed reading Western novels, particularly those by author Louis L'Amour. His favourite drink was single malt Dalwhinnie. During his retirement, he served as a book reviewer for the Wreckhouse Weekly newspaper. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, as well as the paramedics who cared for Gerald.

In keeping with Gerald's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7 ^th , 2022 from 2-4 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
