Gerald George
Neil
Sep 18, 1959 — May 26, 2025
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Gerald George Neil announce his sudden passing on Monday, May 26th, 2025 at the age of 65 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL Gerald was the son of late William and Alma Neil (Nee LaFosse). He was also predeceased by his parents in-law Jabez and Frances Herritt; brothers Charlie and Darrell.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories, his wife of almost 46 years Selma; children, Wade (Danielle), Gerard, and Tori (Ryan); his pride and joy - his grandchildren, Dannie, Reagan and Maddie; brothers and sisters, Janice (Lloyd) Bragg, Louise (Marvin) Strickland, John (Karen) Neil, Charlene Neil, Colin Neil; brother in-law, Corey (Bonita) Herritt; special friends, Dennis, Kelly, Clyde, Wallace, and Gary; his fur baby Bella; plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gerald spent the majority of his life working as a fisherman before transitioning to a mechanic's garage and then onto the Great Lakes. He thrived on staying active and was always eager to lend a hand to those in need. Whenever someone faced car troubles, he was the go-to person, never hesitating to offer his assistance. Gerald had a passion for reading, often found lost in the pages of a book. He also delighted in assembling puzzles and cherished the summers spent at his favorite place, his cabin in the Valley. But his greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world.
Family and friends are welcome to visit Thursday, May 29th, and Friday May 30th, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at St. George's Anglican Church in Burnt Islands. Funeral service will take place Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Annie Rose. In keeping with Gerald's wishes, cremation will follow with interment taking place at a later date.
