Fredrick (Fred)
Matthews
Jan 5, 1936 — Oct 14, 2025
Port aux Basques
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, that the family of the late Fredrick (Fred) Matthews, announce his peaceful passing, with his loving children by his side, at the Mountain Hope Manor, Port aux Basques, NL on October 14th, 2025 at the age of 89 years. Born in Rocky Barachois, Fred is the son of the late Emmanuel and May Matthews (nee Lomond). He is predeceased by his wife Edna; his daughter in-law Cathy; his siblings, Maude, Dorcas, Julie, Jane, Sues, and Gilbert; plus many brothers and sisters in-law.
Leaving to mourn, are his sons, Lewis, and Carl (Darlene) and his daughter Trina (Wade); his grandchildren, Cory, Christopher, Joey, Jeremie, and Amber; his only great granddaughter, Emily; his good buddy, Nelson Kettle; plus a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to send their sincere gratitude to Mountain Hope Manor for the care and compassion they have given him over the last three years.
Fred was a man who found his peace in the great outdoors — whether he was casting a line into still waters, trekking through the woods on a hunt, or working with his hands to build something lasting. He had a gift for carpentry and a heart that was happiest under an open sky. But above all else, Fred's greatest love was for the place that shaped him — Rocky Barachois. It was more than just home; it was part of who he was. And now, he rests where his roots began, surrounded by the land and the memories he cherished most.
In keeping with Fred's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral service will take place at St. Paul's Church on Friday, October 17th, 2025 at 11 AM with internment to follow at St Paul's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques NL, info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
