Corner Brook

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we, the family of the late Florence Mary Devereaux (nee Frampton), announce her passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 88 years.

Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Florence was the daughter of the late Robert and Blanche (nee Hardy) Frampton. Florence was also predeceased by her devoted husband of 60 years, James Gerald Devereaux; parents in-law Michael (Sarah) Devereaux; her son-in-law, Hedley Clarke; sister, Violet (Clayton) Billard; brothers, William Frampton and Reginald Frampton; sisters-in-law, Mary (Nick) Hawco, Geri Devereaux, and Babe Devereaux; and brothers-in-law, Edward Fitzgerald, Ray Marburger, Emmanuel (Edith) Devereaux, Frank Devereaux, and Bill Bryne.

Florence leaves to mourn her children: Joanne Clarke (David Leamon), Brian (Susan) Devereaux, Elaine Devereaux (Dennis Hynes), Michael Devereaux (Martha Tobin), Glenn (Barbara) Devereaux, and Tracy (Dave) Dumaresque; her grandchildren: Terri Clarke (Peter Reilly), Mitchell Clarke (Robin Battiste), Katelyn Devereaux, Maiah Devereaux, Glenda Sheaves, Meagan Tobin-Devereaux, Emma Tobin-Devereaux, Sarah (Justin) Mutford, Jordan Devereaux (Shawna Felix), Brooke Dumaresque, Jack Dumaresque; and her great-grandchildren: Emilie Mutford, Brayden Devereaux, and Lexi Devereaux.

She also leaves to mourn her brother, Ronald Frampton; sisters-in-law, Hazel Frampton, Maxine Frampton, Rita Fitzgerald, Teresa Marburger, Rosella Byrne, Barbara Devereaux, Bernice (Edward) Dalton; brothers-in-law, Michael (Jean) Devereaux, Joe Devereaux, and Greg Devereaux; best friend, Alma Anderson; and her dear friend, Bessie Blackmore; along with her church family and a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

With just a session of summer school, Florence became a teacher at the school in Mouse Island, where she taught until becoming a mother. She would later return to work for several years as a store clerk. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and her card club, and in later years, she enjoyed staying at home and faithfully attending her church on Sundays.

Florence's family would like to thank the many home care workers who supported her over the past couple of years, as well as the staff of Mountain Hope Manor, the Bungalows, Western Memorial Regional Hospital, and Corner Brook Long Term Care for their compassionate care. We would like to say a special thank you to Michelle Marshall, who became like family; Mom's neighbours, Gertie and Hounsell Bessey, Roy Standing, and Winnie Parsons, for checking in on her; and for our dear friend, Bertha Meade Strickland, for stepping up and helping out when we needed her.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Church in Port aux Basques, officiated by Father Arockia Arul Prakash, CM, of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, with interment to follow at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Florence can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or St. Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home.
