It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Ernest Short announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL on Thursday June 24th, 2021 at the age of 86 years. Born on October 2nd, 1934 in Cape Ray, NL, Ernest was the son of the late Solomon and Harriet (Carter) Short. Ernest was also predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth (Albert and Norman) Janes-Wall, Selena (Emanuel) Wall, Rebecca (Clifford) Osmond, and Frances (Roy) Osmond; brothers Isaac (Bride), George (Ada), James (Dulcie), Emanuel, and Theodore; sister-in-law Annie Short, and special friend Rita White.

He leaves to mourn his brother Cecil Short; special nephew Rev. Deacon Vernon Short (Maisie); sister-in-law Bessie Short, his many nieces and nephews, extended family members, friends and residents and staff of Mountain Hope Manor where he had lived since, August 2020.

A special thank you to Ernest's former caregivers Donna Taylor (Jimmy) and the entire Taylor family, Vera Stoodley, Alvin Francis, Sylvia Cross, Anne White and Baine Lawrence for their care and friendship throughout the years.

Visitation will be at East Haven Funeral Home, Grand Bay on Friday, June 25th, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be at St. John The Evangelist Church in Cape Ray on Saturday, June 26th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Faye Coffin and Rev. Deacon Vernon Short officiating, Interment to follow at St. John The Evangelist Cemetery in Cape Ray. No flowers by request, donations in Ernest's memory can be made to the St. John The Evangelist Roofing Fund.
