Ernest Walter
Collier
Jun 13, 1936 — Aug 16, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Collier announces his sudden passing on Saturday August 16th, 2025 in Codroy at the age of 89 years, doing what he loved, blueberry picking. Born in Riverbrook NL, Ernest was the son of the late George and Rose Collier (nee Hilliard). He was predeceased by his father and mother in law, William and Catherine Carter (nee Hilliard); brothers Fredrick, Amos, Wilfred, Frank and John T. Hilliard; brothers in law Ralph Janes, William Carter, Fredrick Carter, Howard Samms, Thomas Harding, William Osbourne, Thomas Confiant; sisters in law Carol Farrell, Vera Harding, Kathleen Samms, Dorothy Confiant, Ella Osbourne, Mable Collier, Florence Carter, and Joyce Collier.
He leaves to mourn with many precious and loving memories, the love of his life, his wife of 63 years Greta Collier (nee Carter); children Carol (Terrence) Fougere, Joy (Paul) Poirier, Craig (Nancy) Collier, Jason (Donna) Collier; grandchildren Angela (Richie) Felton, Craig (Ann) Fougere, Riley Collier (Kelsey), Andre Collier (Katie), Brooke (Justin) Samms, Victoria Collier (Dominic), Cameron Collier; great-grandchildren Aubree, Peyton, Avery, Zachary, Korra, Blair; sister Ruth Janes; sisters in law Mona Collier, Eva Collier, Valarie Collier, Alma Hilliard; brother in law Howard farrell; special friends Nelson and Ann Samms. Plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ernest was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who deeply cherished his family. You could always see the joy in his eyes whenever you were around him- his love was unmistakable. He had a great love of the outdoors; and it showed throughout his life. Whether he was on the water or in the woods, he always seemed to find joy. Fishing was truly in his blood, he spent over 50 years on the water, and he especially enjoyed the last years before he retired with his son's Jason and Craig. Ernest was never one to sit idle. You'd often find him cutting firewood, busy in his shed making splits (because you could never have too many), or out picking berries. Berry picking was one of his many joys- some years he would gather 20-30 gallons of blueberries! He also loved sharing stories from days gone by, bringing joy not just to himself but to his family. Ernest had a wonderful sense of humor, a fondness for dancing (him and Greta shared many a scuff on the dance floor), he enjoyed a good card game- though he was always quick to remind you, "No Cheating!" He also enjoyed a drink of Old Sam from time to time. Ernest will be remembered for his love, the way he embraced life with a full heart and his faith in God. Forever loved, never forgotten!
In keeping with Ernest's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Friday August 22nd from 7-9 PM at Holy Trinity Church in Codroy Valley, with funeral service taking place August 23rd at 2PM. Flowers graciously accepted and donations in Ernest's memory can be made to Newfoundland Heart and Stroke foundation.
