Eric A
Carew
Feb 26, 1938 — May 11, 2025
Port aux Basques
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Eric Carew, on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL. Eric was the son of the late Alexander and Julia Carew (nee Ayre). He is predeceased by his wife Sylvia, his parents in-law; Louis and Mary Sheaves (nee Bishop) brothers and sisters; Alphonse and Frank Carew, Aneitha (Clifford) Sheaves, and Selina Parsons brothers and sisters in-law; Louis, Fredrick, Eric, Joseph, Lloyd, Wilfred, Robert and Edith.
Leaving to mourn with precious memories his son; Fred (Kathy) of Port aux Basques, sisters in-law; Ruth Frazer of California and Mary Carew of Corner Brook, NL. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren; Candice (Ted) White of Cold Brook, NL and Adam (Elyse) of Olds, AB. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren; Ryan, Ashtyn, Graham and Ty and a large circle of nieces and nephews.
Eric was well known as the Bread Man. He proudly worked at Eastern Bakery for 38 years and loved his job. Each day, he enjoyed making deliveries and talking to customers. Eric had a great sense of humor and loved to chat and tell jokes, which often made him the blunt of joke- for always being late getting home from work because he liked to yarn so much! In his free time, he liked to spend time at the government wharf, enjoying the fresh air, the view and the company. In his younger days, Eric was an active member of the Lions Club, where he worked as a volunteer ambulance person, helping those in need. He also had a special honor as the oldest living honorary Mason, showing his commitment to community and service. Eric's warm personality and dedication to his work and community made him a beloved figure in the area, and he will always be remembered for his kindness and laughter.
In keeping with Eric's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16th, 2025 from 1-3 PM at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, with a prayer service being held immediately after, officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Interment will follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society Newfoundland. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL. info@easthavenfuneralhome.com (709)-695-2300 www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
