It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, that the family of the late Edward Hilliard, announce his peaceful passing, with his loving family by his side, at his residence in Codroy Valley, NL on October 29th, 2025 at the age of 66 years. Born in Codroy, NL, Edward was the son of the late Emmanuel and Shelia Hilliard (nee Buchanan). He is predeceased by his sister Pauline Hilliard; in-laws, Janie and Russell Samms, Marie Samms, and James Samms.

Leaving to mourn, is his common law partner of 32 years, Ruthie Samms; step daughter, Jennifer (Ephram) Smith; and fur baby Rusty. He will also be missed by his siblings Deborah (Jay) Field of Alberta, Sandra (Leonard) Downey of Great Codroy, David (Heather) Hilliard of Toronto, Philip (Cindy) Hilliard of Ontario, Ivan (Marsha) Hilliard of Doyles, Heather (Billy) Morris of Codroy; brother in-law, Nelson (Sharon) Codoy; God daughter Victoria Hilliard as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family would like to send their sincere gratitude to Doctors Nurses and Staff at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre for the care and compassion they have given to him during his courageous battle.

Edward was a man who truly loved the outdoors — whether it was hunting, or out for a ride on his side-by-side with his faithful companion, Rusty, by his side. He was a special character whose personality could light up any room, always laughing, joking, and bringing smiles to those around him. Edward fought a courageous battle with cancer for 12 long years. Though everyone at the hospital loved to see him come through the doors, he hated going there and tried to avoid it at all costs. His strength, humor, and love for life will be remembered by all who knew him.

In keeping with Edward's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Sunday, November 2nd from 7-9 PM at Holy Trinity Church  with a funeral service taking place on Monday, November 3rd, 2025 at 11 AM, officiated by Rev. Josh Haggstrom. Internment to follow at Holy Trinity Graveyard.
