Edgar
Caines
May 2, 1950 — May 12, 2026
Burnt Islands
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Edgar Caines announce his sudden passing on Tuesday May 12th, 2026 at the age of 76 years. Born in Burnt Islands, NL Edgar was the son of late Edgar and Lily Caines (nee Keeping). He was also predeceased by two of his good friends, Norman and Jackie.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories his brothers and sisters, Douglas, John, Harold (Beverly) Beulah (Wayne), Edith, Allister (Della), and Colin (Michelle); plus a very large circle of nieces, nephews great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Edgar Caines was a man who truly belonged to the outdoors. A fisherman at heart above all else, he spent much of his life on the water, doing what he loved most. Whether he was out hunting, tending to his garden, or simply enjoying the fresh air, Edgar found joy in the simple things nature had to offer. Known affectionately by many in the community as “Uncle Farmer,” Edgar had a special gift for growing things and took great pride in his gardens. A true jack of all trades, he could turn his hand to just about anything — from carpentry work to lending a helping hand wherever it was needed. Edgar enjoyed good company, a laugh, and a rum and coke — though if the coke was missing, the rum suited him just fine. More than anything, he was a man surrounded by friends, deeply loved by those who knew him, and remembered for his kindness, hardworking spirit, and the countless stories shared along the way. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are welcome to visit Friday May 15th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Islands. Funeral service will take place Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. John Billard.
