Obituary

Dorothy Ellen (Hilliard), 76, peacefully passed away on August 16 th , 2018 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Channel-Port aux Basques, Newfoundland.

Dorothy was born June 22, 1942, in Codroy, Newfoundland. She is the daughter of George and Phoebe Hilliard, also of Codroy.

Dorothy loved to share her gift of hospitality and fine cooking and did so for the majority of her life. She retired from her career as Cook at the Salvation Army Training College in St. John's, Newfoundland. Dorothy loved the sheer pleasure of preparing for others and watching the expressions of joy swoon over their faces while they delighted in her culinary skills. She also spent countless hours serving her community, caring for the poor, visiting the sick, encouraging persons who found themselves in prison or discouraged by life's challenges. She believed her service to God was an "In as much" service, as she looked to each person as being Gods' own child. Dorothy loved the simple pleasures of life whether travelling, enjoying the outdoors, spending time with family and friends or doing her best to win a fun-filled game. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren as occasion would allow. (Nadia, Sarah, Amanda, Meghan, Lori, Aleisha, Joshua, Danielle, Daniel, Jamelia, Ryan and Emily)

Dorothy is survived by her five children Lawrence (Mary), Diane (Harry), James (Darlene), Connie (Bond), Sandra (John) and predeceased by her parents, son David and brother George. She also leaves to mourn brother Robert (Bernice) and Charlie (Francis) with her sisters Elizabeth, Gertie (Joseph), Margaret and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy will be missed by her many friends and caregivers. The family truly acknowledges the love and tender care offered by her dear Friend Patrica Durdle and Homecare workers Tara and Ruth. The Family also wish to acknowledge the tremendous care and support of Dr. Matthew Ryan, the Community Health Services and the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre Staff.
