Taverner
Jun 26, 1937 — Dec 8, 2023
It saddened us to lose you, but you did not go alone, as a part of our hearts went with you the day God called you home. On Friday December 8th, 2023 our lives were forever changed when our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Dennis Joseph Taverner, aged 86 passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Glenwood, NL Dennis was the son of the late Cavelle and Colin Taverner. Dennis was also predeceased by only son, Danny Taverner on April 5, 2009, father and mother in-law; Edgar and Maude LeRiche, brothers; Bruce Taverner, David Taverner. Brothers-in-law; Edward Smith, Howard Leriche, Ralph LeRiche, Ulrick (Bubbles) Savoury. He has also been reunited with one of his closest buddies Gordon (Goog) Short.
He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of special memories, his loving and devoted wife, Bernice (nee LeRiche) of 65 wonderful years together. Precious memories of our kind and quiet dad will forever remain in the hearts of his daughters; Cynthia (Colin) Osmond and Christine (Murray) Thomas. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed by his grandchildren; Christina (Shane), Colin (Leona), and Tyson (Megan), great-grandchildren, Grayson, Addison, Teegan, Oaklyn and Dani. Also left with many cherished memories is his daughter in law Sandra Taverner (Craig Coleman). He will remain in the hearts of his siblings, sister; Nancy Smith, brother's; Paul (Ivy) Taverner, Stanley (Christine) Taverner, and Lloyd (Allanna) Taverner. Sisters-in-law, Florence (John) Foote, Ruth LeRiche, Mary LeRiche, Joan Taverner and Joan Savoury. Lifelong special friend; Bernice Short and her family, also a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Dennis was well known for his kindness, easy-going personality and his contagious smile. He retired from CNR where he worked as a crane operator for many years. He loved music, dancing, salmon fishing and playing cards. He grew up in Glenwood, NL but later resided in Cape Ray, NL. He married the love of his life, Bernice, they had many wonderful years as husband and wife and were inseparable.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre and a little extra special thanks to those on the Long Term Care Unit. The care and compassion given to both Dad and Mom does not go unnoticed, and we could never thank you all enough.
In keeping with Dennis' wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations in memory of Dennis can be made to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300. info@easthavenfuneralhome.com www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
