Obituary

Surrounded by loved ones, our lives were forever changed on June 19, 2023 as we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend David Garland Butt at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, at age of 76. Born in Channel-Port aux Basques, David was the son of the late Garland and Evelyn Butt. He was also predeceased by his brothers Wilson and Nathan, sister-in-laws Judy and Betty, brother-in-law Merrill, niece Natalie and father and mother-in-law, Percival and Louisa Morris.

David leaves behind many precious memories of his devoted and loving wife of 54 years; June (nee Morris). He also leaves behind his daughter Nicolle (Shawn) Keeping of Port aux Basques, NL, the apples of his eye -  granddaughters Ashley and Danielle, brother Pat (Brenda), Fredricton, NB, sister Lorna, North Sydney, NS, brother in laws: Calvin and David and sister in law;Joan,  plus numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends.

David / Dave was a long time teacher / vice principal in Port aux Basques. Some of his fellow teachers were his dearest friends. In his younger years David was an avid softball, badminton and floor hockey player. He enjoyed his game of crib, Wednesday night darts and his poker games. While outside David could be found skidooing, trouting, moose hunting, rabbit snaring or ATVing with June to their special beach spot. He enjoyed several years visiting Myrtle Beach with June prior to illness setting in. He had a passion for gardening and spent a lot of time on his knees in his gardens at Codroy Pond, the community garden in Port aux Basques and in Nicolle and Shawn's backyard. In later years, he could be found frequently visiting his two granddaughters and always loved taxiing them around. He always loved to torment — especially his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 at East Haven Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 23 at 2:00pm at the Wesley United Church with Reverend Patricia Ritchie and Joan Chaisson officiating. As per David's wishes, cremation has occurred. Flowers are graciously accepted by the family given David's passion for his yard / garden. Donations can also be made to the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre. David's family would like to thank the Community Health Nurses of Barhaven Drive, staff of the Chemo Unit, Acute Care nurses and especially Dr. Blecker and Shelly Muise of the Legrow Health Centre for their care and compassion shown to David during his illness.  Heartfelt thanks are also given to the one of a kind Brittany Duhart who made life much easier and brighter during David's final days at home. Funeral arrangements are in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc. 57, Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, NL.

You will be forever missed. ♥️
