Clyde Douglas
Voutier
Mar 12, 1933 — Mar 20, 2023
Clyde Douglas Voutier , born March 12, 1933 in Petites, Dominion of Newfoundland, died peacefully in his 90 th year at Port aux Basques, NL, on March 20, 2023. Over a long life well lived, Clyde was a fisherman, a cook on a school inspection boat, a deck hand on a Great Lake coal carrier, a rail yard labourer, a disc jockey, a barber, a restaurateur and a resident superintendent in a high-rise condominium. Ask and he would have responded that he hated each and everyone of these occupations. Fortunately, and not surprising, Clyde drew much more pleasure from his many hobbies which included the accordion, coin collecting, short wave (CB) radio, slick cars and everything digital. He was a fine carpenter who enjoyed the feel of wood but who never touched a car tool. The ultimate "gregarious curmudgeon", he rarely wanted to attend social functions but always had more fun than anyone once he got there.
Clyde is predeceased by his parents Philip and Beatrice (nee Hann) Voutier; his wife of 66 years Dulcie (Clarke), infant daughter Janet, and son Floyd; sisters Dorothy (Philip) LeRiche, Olive (Thomas) Waugh, Clara Matthews; and by brothers Don (Violet), Cyril (Evelyn), Wilf (Lydia), and Tom (Charlotte). He is survived by sons Brad (Glenys), Keltie (Elizabeth) and daughter Penny (Larry Witten); by daughter-in-law Marlene; by grandchildren Tanya Voutier, Shevaun Meade (Darryl Matthews), Karen Galasso, and Daniel Voutier; and by great grandchildren, Nikita Meade, Ashton Matthews, Hannah Galasso, Hailey Galasso, Sofia Galasso, and Wyatt Voutier. Also left to mourn are brother Roy (Linda); brothers-in-law Russell (Violet) Clarke, Danny (Lorna) Clarke and Rex Matthews; and sister-in-law Martha Hatcher (Winston).
In keeping with Clyde's wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 26th at 2 pm from East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, officiated by Rev. Diana Fry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.
