It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Barbara Smith, age 75, on September 10, 2026, at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville NL. Born in Halifax, NS, to George Sheppard and Jessie Petite. 

Barbara spent most of her life dedicating herself to her family as a devoted homemaker. Barbara found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved singing in her church choir, knitting, and spending her quiet time working on puzzles and word searches. Her warmth, kind spirit, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. 

She is predeceased by her parents, George Sheppard and Jessie Petite, and her brother, George Sheppard. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is her husband, Fred Smith; her daughter, Susan Coley (Sandy) of Halifax, NS; her brother, Robert; and her sister, Tracy. 

She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Megan ("Nanny's little angel"), Timothy and Sandy, along with her beloved great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the East Haven Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held on September 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the East Haven Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kuda. Interment will follow at the St. James Anglican Cemetery. 

Flowers are gratefully accepted by the family. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, donations can be made in Barbara's memory to the St. James Anglican Church.
