It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Alma Marie Gale announces her peaceful passing, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026, at the age of 93 years.
Alma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cyril Gale; her cherished daughter, Mary; her brothers, Alex and Hubert; her sisters, Doreen, Stella, and Mary; her brothers-in-law, Joe and Keith; her sister-in-law, Nancy; her son-in-law, Calvin; and her grandson, Dylan.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of treasured memories are her loving children, Patricia (Eric), Francis (Donna), Eugene, Anthony (Blanche), Agnes (Jeff), and Keith (Nicole). She will also be dearly missed by Michael Gale, Barbara White, Alice Simon, Kaye Gale, Jenny Gale, Barb Leyes, and Al Walters.
Alma leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Dean, Darren, April, Scott, Noel, Carla, Christina, Melissa, Daylena, CJ, and Michael; and her adored great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Blake, Liam, Caleb, Hadley, Hudson, Hailey, Emma, and Gracie along with many other relatives and friends.
Alma was a remarkable woman whose independence, determination, and strength of character were evident in everything she did. She was never one to sit idle or wait for someone else to do something she was perfectly capable of doing herself. Whether it was cooking, cleaning, baking, tending to her home, or tackling a project that others might have considered too difficult, Alma was always ready to roll up her sleeves and get the job done. She was even a talented carpenter, never afraid to pick up a tool and put her skills to work. Once Alma made up her mind about something, there was very little chance of changing it!
Throughout her 93 years, Alma remained remarkably sharp, independent, and strong-willed. She took great pride in looking after herself and her home, maintaining her independence until very recently. Her quick mind, determination, and unmistakable personality remained with her right until the very end. She was a woman who knew what she wanted, spoke her mind, and lived life on her own terms.
Alma found great happiness in the simple pleasures of everyday life. She loved spending time in her flower gardens, mowing her own lawn, knitting, playing cards, and working on puzzles of just about any kind. Her hands were rarely still, and there was always something to be done. She enjoyed watching curling, but perhaps one of her greatest little joys was watching the hummingbirds that visited the feeder on her front lawn. She could spend hours sitting by the window, quietly enjoying the sight of those beautiful little birds fluttering about. It was one of those simple pleasures that brought her so much happiness.
Alma also treasured the friendships she made throughout her life. She looked forward to her Monday evening crib games with Margo Spencer, who faithfully dropped by to share an evening of cards and companionship. She also enjoyed the company of her dear friends Pat Brooks, Vivian Jones, and Patsy Devoe, and Angela Devoy, who would gather to play 500s. These evenings were filled with friendship, laughter, conversation, and perhaps a little friendly competition. They were moments Alma truly cherished.
Above all else, Alma was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was woven together by the love of her family. She was a woman of many talents, countless interests, and a spirit that was entirely her own. Her family will forever remember her determination, her independence, her familiar routines, and the many little things that made her so special. From her beautiful flower gardens to her beloved hummingbirds, from her card games to the countless projects she took on, Alma leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to bring smiles, comfort, and love to those who knew her best.
Though her family must now say goodbye, they take comfort in knowing that Alma lived a long and meaningful life, filled with the things she loved and the people who meant the most to her. Her strength, her spirit, and the memories she created will remain in their hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Thomas and the staff for their care and kindness toward Alma over the past 18 years. A special thank you is also extended to her devoted caregivers, Alisha Aucoin and Shannon O'Quinn, along with Clarysm Hilliard, for the love, compassion, and care they provided. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026 from 7-9 PM at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry, NL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 11 AM at St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry, NL, with interment to follow at a later date.
